The Industrial Air Compressor - Definition and Functions

Manufacturers have used the natural laws of Thermodynamics of fluids to design multiple types of compressors. But first of all, what is a compressor, and what is its function?

Generally speaking, a compressor is equipment which is used to compress a refrigerant fluid. This action creates different phases of high and low pressure in a closed circuit. This difference in pressure will change the nature of the fluid in periodic gas-liquid cycles, and this will naturally lead to temperature differences.

This relatively simple equipment has several functions and several industrial uses. Whether it is used to inflate car tires, to assist the brake system of the trucks or to operate air conditioning, the operating principle generally remains the same, except for some details that are related to the nature of the fluid or the air to be compressed.

The compression of the gas or the air is performed by a mechanical, electrical or thermal motor that accumulates the gas in a sealed chamber at the pressure required by the manufacturer.

This high pressure is maintained in the system through a mechanism of regulators and valves. After that, the gas is distributed in the circuit and this expansion causes it to relax. By nature, when a gas receives compression it emits heat. The inverse happens - when it is relaxing it absorbs heat. This is the secret of this invention which  has changed our way of life and helped  develop several industries, especially the agribusiness and the automotive industry.
